I have had a number of clients that have been under investigation by Child Protective Services (CPS) in Orange County California. CPS may also be referred to as Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Either way, these governmental agencies employ Social Workers to contact my clients often when there is a child abuse criminal investigation in progress. Part of representation includes your right to have an attorney present during a Social Worker Interview to help you limit the detrimental evidence a Social Worker could use against a parent during a pending criminal defense investigation, family law case, or potential juvenile court case. After all, remember that in the Superior Court of California it is all about the evidence. And the less evidence you give, the better off you will likely be in all arenas where you can be prosecuted. Presume anything you say will be used against you toward criminal prosecution and having a former prosecutor who knows the playbook by your side to assert your rights from the start is critical.
